A sensory-friendly homeschool community designed to help middle-school students learn, connect, build confidence, and thrive at their own pace.
The Messy Middle Homeschool Co-op is a sensory-friendly learning community designed especially for middle school-aged homeschool students, ages 11–14, with flexibility for older teens on a case-by-case basis. We know these “messy middle” years can be some of the most challenging, but also some of the most important for identity, confidence, independence, and connection. That’s why we’ve created a space where students can learn through skill-based, interest-led, hands-on experiences while being supported as individuals.
Our co-op is built around three core values: connection, engagement, and empowerment. We believe learning should recognize the whole student, including their strengths, challenges, interests, sensory needs, and individual pace. Through structured activities, group projects, field trips, life-skills experiences, creative opportunities, and sensory-friendly supports, students are encouraged to connect with others, engage in meaningful learning, and grow in confidence and independence.
Parents, guardians, and caregivers are part of the experience, too. We value transparency, partnership, and community, and while we maintain a modest fee structure to support the sustainability of the program, our goal is to keep Messy Middle as accessible as possible for the families we serve.

More Than Homeschooling—A Community Where Students Thrive
Messy Middle Homeschool Co-op is a sensory-friendly learning community designed for middle-school-aged homeschool students, especially neurodivergent learners and those who benefit from a flexible, supportive environment.
Created by Feed the Need Sensory Zone and hosted in partnership with Stony Creek United Methodist Church, the program combines education, social connection, life-skills development, creativity, and community experiences in a way that honors each student's individual pace and strengths.
We believe learning should feel safe, engaging, and empowering.
Here, students are encouraged to explore their interests, build meaningful friendships, develop confidence, and grow in an environment intentionally designed with inclusion at its core.

The 2026–2027 Co-op meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Stony Creek United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti.
