Our Story

Tiana Haygood, the visionary founder of Feed the Need Sensory Zone, recognized a critical need for a safe and inclusive space during the Covid-19 pandemic—one where her son, Levi, and others facing similar challenges could express themselves freely. Levi, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder at the age of 3, has undergone various therapies to improve his quality of life. Tiana observed that Levi flourishes when provided with space and time to engage in his favorite activities, such as the motor room at school and his specially designed sensory-friendly bedroom.

Understanding that not every child and family has access to such resources, Tiana founded Feed the Need Sensory Zone. Operating as a public charity under IRC Section 501(c)(3) and based in Southeast Michigan, the organization’s primary goal is to eventually launch a mobile sensory resource facility—the Sensory Bus. However, recognizing the immediate demand for such a space in the community, the organization has shifted its focus to developing a Sensory Trailer as a quicker, more accessible solution. In addition, Feed the Need has partnered with another local organization, Audapt, to co-create Sensory Dens—permanent, sensory-friendly spaces tailored for churches, offices, community centers, and more.

The goal is to provide a secure, calming space where individuals can find respite while navigating a world filled with overwhelming lights, noises, and stimuli. Through play, exploration, and socialization, Feed the Need Sensory Zone uses therapeutic tools to support physical, occupational, and social development.

With the backing of friends and advocates, Feed the Need Sensory Zone is dedicated to making a lasting impact, offering families a space where they can grow together and thrive in a supportive, inclusive environment.
